Tenleytown-AU is an island platformed Washington Metro station in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on August 25, 1984, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Red Line, the station is on the 4500 block of Wisconsin Avenue at Albemarle Street, Northwest, with exits on either side of Wisconsin Avenue. It is both the last station under Wisconsin Avenue, before the tracks turn and head under Yuma Street to Connecticut Avenue, and the last wholly within the District of Columbia, before the Red Line enters Montgomery County, Maryland.
Originally to be called Tenley Circle, in February 1980 the Metro Board officially changed its name to Tenleytown. In May 1989, although objected to by several community groups, the Metro Board officially changed its name to Tenleytown-AU due to its proximity to American University.
