Edgware Road tube station is the name of two separate stations
on the London Underground in Travelcard Zone 1.
This is about the one serving the Circle, District and Hammersmith & City
Lines on the corner of Chapel Street and Cabbell Street.
Although both stations have entrances on Edgware Road, they are approximately
150 metres apart on opposite sides of the Marylebone Road dual carriageway
flyover and are not directly linked, being a 5 minute walk apart.
There have been proposals to rename one of the stations, though as of September 2007
there are no official plans to do so.
Neither of the Edgware Road stations should be confused with Edgware station, at one
of the northern ends of the Northern Line.
This station was part of the world's first underground railway when it was opened as part
of the Metropolitan Railway between Paddington and Farringdon on 1 October 1863.
It was the site for one of the 7 July 2005 London bombings. Mohammad Sidique Khan
detonated a bomb at about 8:50am, on board a westbound Circle line train as it was leaving
the station, killing six passengers.
