Boylston is a station on the Green Line and Silver Line of the MBTA rapid transport network, located on the southeast end of Boston Common at the intersection of Boylston and Tremont Streets. The Station was Opened on September 3rd.1897 (Green Line) and July 30th.2002 (Silver Line).
Boylston was one of the first two stations on the Tremont Street Subway along with Park Street. The subway was built between 1895 and 1897 and broke ground on the site of the current Boylston station. As it opened in 1897, it became not just the first rapid transport station in Boston, but in the entire United States. Of these two, it retains more of its original appearance. Historic Boston PCC trolleys are also kept on display in the station. It is doubted that they are in operable condition. The trolleys are on a set of outer tracks leading to a southward tunnel originally heading for the Pleasant Street Incline, with long-discontinued service through to South Boston via Broadway.
