Construction of the U-Bahn started in 1907. The "Hamburger Hochbahn" (elevated metro) currently has 89 Stations and formed by three lines (U1, U2, U3) with a total length of 101 km (40 km underground) with all lines running underground, elevated or at grade (especially U1 north-eastern branch) at some stage.
