Boston is the Capital and largest City in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest Cities in the United States. In 1630 Puritan colonists from England founded the City on the Shawmut Peninsular. During the late 18th.Century, Boston was the location of several major events during the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party.  The City proper has an estimated population of 645,200 in 2009, but Greater Boston is home to 4.5 Million, and a commuting area of 7.5 Million people. The City attracts 16.3 Million Domestic & Overseas Visitors annually.

 

The MBTA  (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) or simply “The T”  operates an extensive network of busses, subway, commuter rail & ferry systems in the Greater Boston Area. The Subway averages nearly 600,000 Passengers each weekday.

 

Subway Fares can be paid using Tickets, Cash or a Charlie “Smart-Card” Card, the latter being the cheapest.  Cash Fare/Ticket: US$ 2.00. CharlieCard Fare: US$ 1.70 (plus Free Transfer to Local Busses) Day Pass: US$ 9:00 (Unlimited Travel on Subway & Local Busses);  Week Pass (7-Days):  US$ 15.00 (Unlimited Travel on Subway & Local Busses). Fares Subject to Change.

CharlieCards can be obtained from MBTA Customer Service Agents in Subway Stations & select Bus Terminals, T-Sales Offices at Back Bay, Downtown Crossing, Harvard, North & South Stations & many Retail Locations. CharlieCards can be ReLoaded “on-line” or at any of the 500 Fare Vending  Machines  or Retail Location.

Blue Line + + – Weekdays & Saturday:  5:13 a.m. to 12.49 a.m.;  Sunday:  5:58 a.m. to 12.49 a.m.

Green Line + + – Weekdays:  4.56 a.m. to 12:52 a.m.; Saturday: 4:45 a.m. to 12:47 a.m.; Sunday:  5:20 a.m. to 12:48 a.m.                  

Orange Line + + - Weekdays & Saturday:  5:16 a.m. to 12:26 a.m.;  Sunday : 6:00 a.m. to 12:26 a.m. 

Red  Line + +- Weekdays & Saturday:  5:05 a.m. to 1:05 a.m.; Sunday:  5:51 a.m. to 1:05 p.m.
