Bangkok is the capital city of and largest urban area in Thailand. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (pronounced Th-Krung) or simply Krung Thep, meaning "City of Angels".

Bangkok has two different types of Metros, the BTS Skytrain which is elevated (started in 1997 with 23 stations and 30 km in length) & the underground MRTA Subway system (Started in 1997 with 18 stations & 21 km in length).
On the MRTA there are Single Journey Token (40 Thai Bahts/US$1.25), Multi Journey Prepaid Cards (Can be re-filled in increments of 100 Thai Baht's/US$3.50), One (120 Thai Bahts/US$3.75) & Three Day (230 Thai Bahts/ US$7.50) Passes.
On the BTS Skytrain there are Single Journey Magnetic Tickets (40 Thai Bahts/US$1.25) & One Day Pass (130 Thai Bahts/US$4.00). Multi Journey Prepaid Sky Smart Pass (130 Thai Bahts/US$4.00 minimum to start then can be-filled in increments of 100 Thai Baht's/US$3.50)
